Reaching your goal is important regardless of your age or circumstances. So, I’d like to start with a quick story showing everyone can create strategies to meet their goals.
When I was 14, I couldn’t legally drive, but I sure wanted to. I grew up near an area with many used car dealerships. These dealerships had their best, most expensive cars in the front row, and they always wanted them shiny and clean.
Their problem was my opportunity. I offered to wash and wax a car for $2.50. That deal was hard to resist, and I could use the money. But, even better than the money, the cars were always in the front row, which meant I had to move all those cars out and then back again. It was a dream job: money and fun.
That was my first taste of strategy, even though I didn’t know it. That simple strategy has stayed with me my entire life.
I still love creating strategies, but my passion today is helping companies develop Innovative strategies that deliver a competitive advantage.

After the U.S. Marine Corps and college, I joined the corporate world. My first job was at Honeywell, where I worked on the one, five, and twenty-five-year plans. Imagine, in today’s environment, being able to project out twenty-five years.
Since then, I have over 50+ years of experience creating marketing and advertising strategies, as well as experience as an investment advisor and fundraiser. These companies have included all sizes, from startups (including four of my own) to mid-sized companies like Dain Roucher Inc., Donaldson Company, and Cub Foods to Fortune 500 companies like Honeywell, Xerox, and Diebold.
During these years, I saw the need for a company that helped companies with more than a quick-fix revenue program but a strategy that created a longer-term competitive advantage. This required skills like diagnosing a problem or opportunity, not just research and analytics. It also required creativity skills that very few people possessed, and it is one of the things I love to do.
So, I started Harbor Capital Group to help B2B companies develop Innovative strategies that deliver a competitive advantage. I also wanted to make it affordable and help reduce the risks associated with any new project — which you can read about on my website.
