From the earliest days of his career, Jim has sought the answers to that question across industries, markets, and economic cycles. His
journey began long before founding Harbor Capital Group LLC in 2013—it’s a story shaped by decades of experience, curiosity, and a
relentless drive to help businesses achieve exponential growth.
A Founder Shaped by Experience
After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a concentration in Marketing from the University of Minnesota, Jim
served in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he developed the discipline and clarity that would later define his approach to business.
His professional journey first took shape at Honeywell and Diebold, where Jim honed his marketing and communications skills, learning how
to distill complex financial and technical concepts into clear, compelling stories.
By the mid-1980s, his entrepreneurial spirit took hold. As Founder and President of Financial Datacom Inc., he built a firm that specialized
in communications for publicly traded companies—crafting research reports, press releases, and messaging designed to connect financial
narratives with investors.
From there, Jim transitioned to the world of finance as a Registered Representative and Investment Executive at Dain Bosworth (now RBC Dain
Rauscher Inc.) and later spent 15 years as an Investment Advisor with Feltl & Company, where he managed portfolios that combined publicly
traded and private securities. His approach blended fundamental and technical analysis, but what truly set him apart was his reliance on
Austrian Economics—a lens that prioritized real-world market dynamics over government statistics. He didn’t just analyze numbers; he studied
behaviors, incentives, and systems.
The Birth of Harbor Capital Group
By 2013, decades of experience had crystallized into a mission: to help business leaders achieve the one goal that fuels all
others—continuous, profitable revenue growth.
Jim founded Harbor Capital Group on that belief.
He realized that when companies achieve consistent growth, everything else—innovation, operations, culture, and impact—flows more naturally.
